Lotus unveiled

Just days before Lotus unveils its future plans at the Paris Motor Show, a new model has been revealed to eager car fans.

The Lotus Elite is to be a sneak peak into the new range of models that the car manufacturer will be announcing. A hybrid model, the Elite will feature a kinetic energy recovery (KERS) system, developed in-house. The Elite will be just one of the models that Lotus hope will challenge the likes of Aston Martin and Porsche, putting themselves back at the forefront of supercar design.

According to Autocar, the Elite is to feature a 5.0litre V8 engine, with two model options - a base 540bhp model and a barnstorming 610bhp R offering for those that want to eclipse the competition. Reaching 0-62mph in 3.5 to 3.7 seconds respectively, with a top speed of over 180mph, this Lotus isn't one for the faint hearted.

Aesthetically, the Elite will feature a compact, coupe style body, with a front end that is a far cry from the company's Elise days. Inside the car, buyers can expect a quality fascia panel with a leather trim.

CEO of the Lotus Group, Danny Bahar, spoke to thelotusforums.com about the new Elite, saying: ''There's no denying that the Elite is breathtakingly beautiful to look at but it's so much more than that, it's a car that over delivers in all other aspects as well... Make no mistake, there's a definite market requirement for the Elite, it's the ultimate sportscar feel with comfort and space.''

The Elite is expected to be in production by 2014, with an order book opening prior to this.
