Label manufacturer launches easy-to-read RFID label

A label manufacturer has developed a new label that makes it easier to read radio frequency identification labels when applied to a metallic surface.

As reported by RFID News, the new label uses a spacer made of a special foam that improves the readability of labels applied to metallic surfaces. The spacer is made of industrial foam and the RFID label has an adhesive area. This allows the label to be attached directly to the metallic surface.

The spacer separates the radio frequency identification (RFID) antenna from the metallic substrate which makes it easy to write or read operations.

RFID labels have been used in car-sharing in America, where RFID cards lock and unlock cars, and identify members. It's the technology that's used in Oyster cards, which commuters in London use to to pay for transport around the capital. In fact, the technology is so widespread it's used in passports, at museums, on public transport and for measuring race times. The new label would prove useful across a number of industries, from car manufacturing to border control and leisure events.

It can be customised with bar codes, plain text and even logos for easy identification. Furthermore, the new label can also use holograms, BitSecure cods or colour-changing inks to give it added security. It can be equipped with a range of chip technologies and inlay sizes, which means that the label is perfect for use in marking storage locations and loading aids, as well as metal containers and cage pallets in logistics and identification of metallic parts and components in manufacturing.
